Locate a file in Windows 95
Use one of the following methods to locate a file in Windows 95:
1) Use the FIND command:
a) Choose the Windows 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Find'. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Files or Folders...'. (The Find: All Files dialog box appears, with the Name & Location page displayed.)
d) Click on the arrow in the 'Look In' box to display the drop down list.
e) Select the drive to search, or choose the 'Browse...' button.
f) Check the 'Include subfolders' check box.
g) Do one of the following:
1] If the filename is known, enter the filename in the 'Named' box.
2] If the file creation date is known:
a] Choose the 'Date Modified' tab.
b] Select the 'Find all files created or modified' radio button.
c] Do one of the following:
1} Select the 'between' radio button, and enter the date range to search.
2} Select one of the 'during the previous' radio buttons, and enter either the month or days.
3] If text contained in the file is known
a] Choose the 'Advanced' tab.
b] Select the type of file from the 'Of type' drop down list box.
c] Enter a text string or word in the 'Containing text' box.
h) Choose the 'Find Now' button.
2) Use EXPLORER
a) Choose the Windows 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs'. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Windows Explorer'. (Windows Explorer opens.)
d) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Find'.
e) Select 'Files or Folders...'. (The Find: All Files dialog box appears, with the Name & Location page displayed.)
f) Click on the arrow in the 'Look In' box to display the drop down list.
g) Select the drive to search, or choose the 'Browse...' button.
h) Check the 'Include subfolders' check box.
i) Do one of the following:
1] If the filename is known, enter the filename in the 'Named' box.
2] If the file creation date is known:
a] Choose the 'Date Modified' tab.
b] Select the 'Find all files created or modified' radio button.
c] Do one of the following:
1} Select the 'between' radio button, and enter the date range to search.
2} Select one of the 'during the previous' radio buttons, and enter either the month or days.
3] If text contained in the file is known
a] Choose the 'Advanced' tab.
b] Select the type of file from the 'Of type' drop down list box.
c] Enter a text string or word in the 'Containing text' box.
j) Choose the 'Find Now' button.
